A1C

What

Hamemoglobin A1C tells you your average blood sugar level over the past 2-3 months. The term HBA1C refers to "glycated haemoglobin" - where "haemoglobin", a protein in your red blood cells that carries oxygen, joins with glucose and becomes "glycated".  Your A1C test will be higher where your glucose (sugar) levels have also been higher over the last few weeks or longer.  Reducing your HBA1C level can reduce the risk of heart failure and other health complications and is particularly important if you are at risk of, or have, Diabetes.
